StoryTK has the heart of a newsroom, which is precisely where we developed our skills and sensibilities. Our partners have decades of experience in storytelling: writing, editing, designing, art direction and promotion for some of the world’s most prestigious brands and media properties. We also have a network of contributing editors, researchers, data scientists and animators that we tap for large projects. Here's a look at the core team.
Co-founder, Editorial Director
O’Brien began covering the world of technology around the time of the Netscape IPO. He ventures into other areas on occasion, including health, wine, food, golf and many realms of science, but specializes in stories about big ideas, geeky innovators and would-be world-changers. He spent a dozen years as a senior editor at Wired and Fortune and still writes for both as well as for Bloomberg Businessweek. O'Brien graduated from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications and studied the nexus of science and religion during one amazing summer at Cambridge University. A native of Connecticut, he's the husband to one woman, father of two sons and coach for dozens of little leaguers in Mill Valley, California.
Carl De Torres
Co-founder, Creative Director
De Torres is a visual storyteller specializing in making the invisible visible. He first cut his teeth on the pages of Wired in San Francisco where he was part of a small team that brought the magazine an unprecedented three consecutive ASME Design awards. He later founded Carl De Torres Graphic Design, where he continued his editorial work and built an impressive list of corporate clients including, IBM, Facebook, and Pitney Bowes to name a few. His design, illustration and infographic work have appeared in The New York Times, Fortune, Bloomberg Businessweek, Time, Vanity Fair, ESPN, Fast Company and Nature. He lives amongst the redwoods and oak trees of Lafayette, California, with his wife and son.
Partner, Editorial Lead
Warner's curiosity has taken him around the world. His career in journalism started on the crime beat at a New Jersey newspaper. He followed his nose for great business and technology stories to New York, London and then wherever else he could find a decent Wifi connection and cell reception. Lately, he’s scouting stories about brilliant minds seeking to change the world. He has written for Reuters, Slate.com, Bloomberg Businessweek, Wired, The Guardian, Time, Times of London and Inc., to name just a few. He's also worked on film projects –including a documentary on the child miners of DRC. He lives with his family in Rome, where speaks a lot with his hands and abides by the locals' strict no-cappuccino-after-10am rule.
Partner, Projects Director
