Jeffrey O'Brien and Carl De Torres first developed their unique style of visually driven storytelling while working together at Wired in 2005. Nine years later, over a couple of espressos, they were bemoaning the state of marketing in technology. Agencies renowned for their ability to sell dish soap and tortilla chips were creating clever, but ultimately hollow, campaigns for companies whose products they didn't really understand.

Our founders knew they could do better. So they started StoryTK on the belief that complex companies would benefit from the same skillsets required to create award-winning narrative and visual journalism. 

They built a staff in the model of their ideal newsroom. It's populated by visually oriented writers and editors and editorially minded illustrators, photographers, animators, and designers. We're all attracted to complexity. None of us are afraid to ask dumb questions of quants, savants, and PhD's, because we feel understanding is the prerequisite for true creativity. 

We use the skills that we honed at the highest rungs of media – research, narrative writing, infographics, data, and analytics – as a means of translation. We explain how a combination of science, technology, and ambition is defining our world. We challenge our clients even as we inspire them, helping them see themselves with new eyes, and helping convey their image thoughtfully to the world.
